Un gérant de journaux parisiens Bastien ( Fresnay) est partagé entre ses occupations , sa fille Francine (Sophie Grimaldi) et surtout sa sœur Lucrèce (Arletty).

Lucrèce dirige 2 ou 3 chroniques virulentes dans le quotidien de Bastien. Cela fait grimper le tirage. Mais Bastien doit modérer les débordements de Lucrèce.
Et voilà que Francine annonce son mariage avec Bruno (Brialy). Lucrèce va tout faire pour contrer ce projet.
Bastien va par contre aider Francine....
